Sarah Abbott - Botanical Gardens
I've chosen Sarah Abbott's updated edition of the Botanical Gardens print for my first pick of the season.
I am a bit of a fan girl of Sarah's work, and have another of her pieces in my house already. I think the way she captures the building so accurately and yet with such simplicity is really wonderful, and it's a big piece too, which makes it really impressive to see.
The Botanical Gardens are a pretty special place to me - when I first came to Sheffield in the early 2000's I found it quite difficult to be in a city, it felt quite claustrophobic to me, and when I discovered the Botanicals it became a bit of a sanctuary for me. The pavilion itself always brings back fond memories from a very snowy New Years Eve years ago. I was walking home in the not-too-early hours of the morning and decided to walk through the Botanical Gardens, it was so beautiful. My friend and I sat by the frozen waterfall just looking at the early morning sun reflecting on the glass.
A memory nearly as beautiful as the picture!
