FRAMING

Quality and good design

We build all of our frames in-house in our well-equipped workshop, providing solutions that are functional and provide artwork with complete protection, and of course look great. That’s why when you choose one of our frames for your posters or prints, you'll know that we've selected the correct materials for the job to create an elegant picture frame that is in tune with the artwork, and excellent value.

We collaborate with artists and galleries to promote their work in the most eye-catching and sustainable formats. Look out for our artist approved framing options for a design made with the artist, specifically for that piece of work.

Helping you choose

There are so many variables and possibilities when it comes to framing your art and getting it on your walls. We could spend hours talking about it (quite seriously) - but we want to make it easy for you to make selections. We have a selection of pre-designed frames which, in our experience, will suit many of your framing needs. Here’s our simple guide to the formats and materials we use to build the frames we make for our prints and for customers’ artwork.

A quick guide to framing styles and formats

  • Close frame

The simplest form of frame - the paper sits directly behind the glass, with the frame rim at the edge. It can be a great solution for posters and reproduction prints. In this example the frame is a super thin aluminium profile.

It works best where there is a visual border as part of the design on the print; without that the artwork “crashes” the rim, which can look cramped. For a bit of visual air, try the next option...

  • Close frame with spacer

Here the print is set back from the glazing in a recessed box with the sides lined by a spacer. The extra space not only protects the artwork from prolonged contact with the glass but also draws the eye into the piece. Its compact size can work well in a gallery wall.

  • Window mounting

Window mounts create a classic setting for your picture. Designed to provide visual space around the image, it helps balance the composition of the overall piece. The separation of the main elements - frame and artwork - allows for bolder choices. It is a combination often found in galleries, and gives substance to the piece. Mounts also create a protective gap between the glass and your artwork.

  • Window mount with spacer

The deluxe frames in our Do It Now collection have both a mount and a spacer, for an extra sense of setting.

Another variable with mounts: there is a huge range of surface colours. It can get complicated, but we are here to help you make educated choices and bring you great solutions.

  • Float frames

Sometimes it’s not just the image, but the object itself which deserves to be seen. Prints on high quality archival paper often have the original torn and deckled edges. We float these on conservation grade mount board or foam-centred board using archival tapes, and the whole print is then able to be viewed in the recessed space between the glass and the back mount board.

  • Aluminium Profiles

A classic treatment for posters and photography, the rigidity and strength of these profiles allows super thin frames for larger objects - or as in the case of this example, super shiny and chunky
